Staying friends
Have any of you guys ever tried to stay friends with an ex? I'm finding it admittedly rather difficult and even though past experience has taught me never to walk away angrily and cut ties because you will regret it I can't help but feel like it's the best thing to do for myself.

Re: Staying friends
It's difficult to determine, IMO. Depending how the relationship ended can show surprising immaturity in someone you one thought an emotionally intelligent person. That was my own experience at least. The contact faded out after most of the contact became insults and snide public comments on social media, directed at myself. If anytihng it helped my get over my emotions for them quicker.

Every instance is different though, sorry to hear you're in that situation :/

Re: Staying friends
Thanks. It's been tough, especially after 5 and a half years. We both think it's the right move but it's fucking scary to be moving out into a flat after so long thinking I was settled here long term. I'm trying to look at it as a new adventure or something I guess.

It's hard right now to picture maintaining any kind of friendship. But I'll play it by ear and see. I think we've both surprised each other at how we can each be kind of an asshat at times.

No. Don't do it. At least not until you're completely over it and found someone better.

Re: Staying friends
It's possible. I've stayed friends with 2 ex's. It really depends how much you still feel for them. (And who dumped who haha). It can be pretty painful if you still care for them.

Re: Staying friends
It's kind of ironic looking back on this. You know when you're too close to a situation to really see how ridiculous it is. My ex was an abusive piece of shit and i was convinced i needed to stay friends with him pretty much so i could see my cat.

As much as i miss my super mogs, i am so much happier without him in my life. he is genuine scum and i really do hope he gets everything that he deserves. couldnt happen to a nicer guy, i assure you.

Re: Staying friends
It's sad that you lose out on the kitty, but if that was the only reason you felt compelled to do it, kinda speaks volumes about him as a person.

Hope you're doing a world better now, Davie!

Re: Staying friends
One has to have an ex to remain friends with....

But no, I'm ot friends with anyone I dated, normally because they ended it and I'm bitter..... (which is unlike a lemon, which is sour)

Re: Staying friends
Hey Spoilers, yeah stuff is a world away from where it was now. he was such a scumbag and i realised keeping a relationship with my cat wasn't worth the shit he put me through. one can pray for karma ha.

And styzssm, yeah i think that's the going way to be but it might not always be the best way to be, but it depends on the situation i guess.
